Flying Dutchman

A few days ago, on a hiking tripI glanced through the clouds flying Dutchman's shipA ghastly specter of the high seasWas silently gliding on tops of the trees

I thought 'twas a sign, and I held my breathFor those who witness it's a mark of deathI'm still young and healthy, well, till nowA captain was standing on the ship's bow

I knew I was spotted from far awayI went on my knees and started to prayFervid and deep I went into the prayerFor my sins I will pay a very high fare

A ship's bell tolled twice at midnightI knew it was useless to flee or fightThe Moon's standing full with its silvery raysGives out escapes, hiding places betrays

Moonlight's reflecting from aspens' leavesOh no, I was wrong, these were butterfly silksFor weeks they were growing, protected and nursedThe millions of them were ready to burst

And then, it happened, in an outburstButterflies were volleying to the ship accursedFrom everywhere, from afar and nearLike bullets they fluttered with no fear

As I was watching it, I started to weepThat can't be happening, I must be asleepI knew it was magic, phantom menace goneI was rescued by the legendary Leprechaun

Who lives in the Rockies, in the aspen groovesAnd helps folks whose ways he approvesThat's why you should drink only raw milkAs pointed by Chaos valve silk.
